Pumpkin Picking and Halloween Events near Reading

Halloween is just around the corner, and whilst it's easy to buy a pumpkin in the supermarket, it's great fun to pick your own! Pumpkin Picking is a great activity to do with the whole family, and there are lots of places around Reading where you can pick the perfect pumpkin!

Wokingham communities really love a Halloween event, and we look forward to the trails every year! We've pulled together our round up of all the best spooky goings on for Halloween locally! We’ve got trails, days out, forest frolics and so much more!

Pumpkin Picking and Halloween Events near Reading

Wasing Park - PYO Pumpkins and Woodland Trail

(AD/gifted) Back for October half term 2023, visit Wasing's Pick Your Own Pumpkin field & Woodland Trail. Running from 20th October to 29th October.

  • Pick Your Own organic pumpkins field
  • A magical woodland trail featuring the Estate's resident creatures including bats & spiders

Spooky Adventure Golf at Golfplex

(Ad) Friday 21st October to Monday 31st October

Visit Golfplex this Halloween week. Take on the decorated 'Howling Jungle Course'. Dress up in spooky attire (adults and children!) to win a small Halloween Hamper every hour for the best dressed.


A kids party special on the Toptracer Range - Friday 27th October - 5pm to 7pm.

PLUS, pre-book for 4 or more and the children receive FREE hot dogs! And x2 mini-Halloween hampers for the two best fancy dress costumes.


Friday 27th October - 7pm to 9pm - adult-only!

Our DJ will be playing some grooves on the Toptracer Range and we've a range of food and drink offers for your enjoyment. Let the ghastly golf and gruesome grooves begin!

Scarecrow Trail

21st - 29th October

Get ready to unleash your inner ghoul! Reading BID is hosting a FREE town-wide scarecrow trail that will send shivers down your spine. Gather your brave little horrors and grab a trail leaflet from Broad Street Mall, The Oracle Customer Service Desk, Town Hall or Reading Central Library.

Pumpkin Patch at Broad Street Mall

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th October

Bring your completed trail map to Broad Street Mall and claim your reward - a FREE pumpkin from the terrifying pumpkin patch! There are also lots of fab photo opportunities at the pumpkin patch. For full details click here.


Halloween at West Green House - Half Term Magic & Mystery Trail

21st/22nd and then the 25th - 29th October at 12pm/1pm and 2pm (house entry from 11am)

The SPOOKY daytime Halloween Trail is for the children to find perhaps horrid jack-o -lanterns, witches and skeletons and of course a cone full of trick-or-treat sweets.

Wear fancy dress to be entered into a competition to win a Family Ticket to the Christmas Illuminated Garden Adventure.

Enjoy luscious lunches and afternoon tea treats in the Tea Room.

Halloween at the Farm - Buckleybury Farm

21st - 31st October

Come down to the farm for a half term full of spooky fun;

Spooky Woodland Trail
Pumpkin Carving (includes a pumpkin, a carving kit and space to make mess!)
Scarecrow trail around the farm

Pumpkin Picking, Wild Woodland Trail and Halloween Pumpkin Carving

Selected dates; 14th, 15th 21st – 29th October 2023 at Hallcourt Farm

This is Hallcourt Farm's first attempt at growing pumpkins and it looks like they have a bumper crop that will be just perfect for Halloween. With Polar, Becky and Racer Pumpkins mixed in with Goosebump Squashes, there is a wonderful selection to choose from.

There is also a chance to follow a Wild Woodland Trail and spot Halloween surprises through the trees with plenty of family photo opportunities.

If you really fancy making a day of your Halloween preparations, please visit the barn where you can buy a pumpkin carving kit and stickers to decorate your pumpkins. Enjoy teas, coffees, cold drinks and delicious cakes and snacks while you create your Halloween masterpiece.

Copas Farm (Iver & Cookham)

Returning this year Copas Farms in Iver and Cookham are opening their gates for pumpkin picking!
Pumpkins will be available for picking on the 7th and 8th and 14th and 15th of October.

Vouchers are £3 per person. Access to the pumpkin field for some great photo opportunities.

Little Scare-lings at Dobbies Hare Hatch

28th and 29th October at 3pm.

Join us as Little Seedlings takes a Halloween twist and our "Little Scare-lings" have a frightfully fun pumpkin-themed afternoon

They’ll sink their fangs into some terrifying treats, followed by pumpkin-themed activities and games before choosing their own pumpkin from our miniature patch to take home and carve

Child's Menu (£9.99):

Halloween Trail in Caversham Court Gardens

28th and 29th October 11am - 4pm

Visit the gardens during daylight hours and encounter ghosts, witches, weird creatures and nature spirits all made from recycled and found materials.

There are 20 creepy displays to discover! Lots of new displays this year and some old favourites to appeal to adults as well as to children of all ages.

Free entry but trail guides/tick sheets will be available on the day for £1 cash donation to ensure that you do not miss out on anything. The Tea Kiosk will be open throughout.

Please note: Children must be accompanied by an adult. No need to pre-book just turn up!


Spencers Wood & Three Mile Cross Halloween Trail

23rd - 31st October 2023

Back for its fourth year this is set to be the best year yet! Follow the trail to find scarecrows and decorated houses this years theme is Childrens Book Characters. Maps are availble from Budgens and Robyns Nest Cafe Shinfield. For more details click here.


2023 Mortimer Scarecrow Trail

21st - 29th October 2023

The ever-popular Mortimer Scarecrow Trail is back this October Half Term!

This year’s theme is Sing-a-Song of Scarecrows. From Children’s Rhymes to Rock’n’Roll, Disney to Bollywood, we want you to bring the music to Mortimer this Autumn.

There will be cash prizes awarded for Children’s and Adult’s Favourite, Funniest and Chairman’s Choice.


Halloween party!

Bring the whole family to enjoy the spooky celebrations at IKEA Reading.

Thursday 26th October 4pm - 5:30pm and 6pm - 7:30-pm this is a FREE event but you must book your space in advance. To book click here.

With lots to do including pumpkin decorating, games, face painting and balloon art plus mini trick or treaters will get a treat from us! Kids can eat from 95p and enjoy a free tea or coffee as an IKEA Family member. You wont want to miss this!


Join The Little Play Lounge for a pumpkin picking like no other...

Halloween can be scary for little ones, The Little Play Lounge has got other plans...

Join them for an Autumnal family fun pumpkin picking session, play on some hay bales, enjoy our pumpkin theme games, chat to our happy scarecrows and take some photos for the family album!

Please choose a time you would like to arrive, arrival slots are every 30 minutes but then you are welcome to stay and play as long as you wish, there will be plenty food and drink on offer!
