Pumpkin Picking and Halloween Events near Reading

Halloween is just around the corner, and whilst it's easy to buy a pumpkin in the supermarket, it's great fun to pick your own! Pumpkin Picking is a great activity to do with the whole family, and there are lots of places around Reading where you can pick the perfect pumpkin!

Reading communities really love a Halloween event, and we look forward to the trails every year! We've pulled together our round up of all the best spooky goings on for Halloween locally! We’ve got trails, days out, forest frolics and so much more!

Pumpkin Picking and Halloween Events near Reading 

(AD/gifted) Back for October 2024, visit Wasing's Pick Your Own Pumpkin field & Woodland Trail. Running from 18th October to 31th October. At the heart of stunning Wasing Estate near Aldermaston lies a very special pumpkin patch. Visitors are invited to follow the enchanting decorated woodland trail through Wasing's stunning autumnal woodland then head for the pumpkin patch where a fairytale pumpkin carriage awaits and where you can choose your perfect pumpkin, nestled in our organic field left just as nature intended, to take home & carve. Afterwards enjoy tasty seasonal snacks and hot & cold drinks under our beautiful stretch tent.

  • Woodland Trail

Follow a magical seasonal trail, designed for little legs, through the Estate's stunning autumnal woodland and encounter upon some special moments amongst the trees, with a children's activity to complete along the way.

  • Pumpkin Patch 

The leafy pathways of the woodland trail lead to Wasing's pumpkin patch where a fairytale pumpkin carriage awaits. Collect a wheelbarrow - great fun for the little ones to take a ride in! - and find your perfect pumpkin match in Wasing's patch to take home and carve. We are proud to be an organic farm & our pumpkin field is just as nature intended. We don't use any harmful weedkillers and pesticides & invite you to have fun finding your pumpkin amongst the vines and plant life.

  • Seasonal Snacks

Treat yourself to a tasty seasonal snack and keep warm with a delicious hot chocolate, all served under our beautiful stretch tent with stunning views.

  • Outdoor Experience

Please wear wellies or boots and appropriate outdoor clothing as this experience takes place outdoors in woodland areas and fields.

Spooky Adventure Golf at Golfplex

(AD) A Ghastly, Ghoulish Ghost Hunt at GolfPlex this Halloween. Join GolfPlex this Halloween week as the ghosts and ghouls take over Bear Mountain Adventure Golf. It's going to be a fun, spooky experience for adults and children of all ages.

Running from Monday 24th to Monday 31st October. 

  • Ghost hunt across the Jungle, Polar and Desert Adventure Golf courses
  • How many ghastly, ghoulish ghosts can you find?!
  • Free prize draw for all participants - win a sweet hamper, Toptracer Range experience and a family Adventure Golf ticket
  • Draw taking place on Tuesday 1st November, with the winners contacted on the same day
  • It's great fun for all ages

Spook-Tacular Potion Question at Broad Street Mall 

(AD) On Saturday 26th October, between 11am - 4pm, families are invited to join Broad Street Mall for a magical day of potion making adventures!

Little ones will have the chance to dress up as witches and wizards, before being taken off by a fiendishly fun trail master around the centre to find weird and wonderful potion ingredients.

After completing the trick-tacular trail, children can then take part in making their very own cauldronconcoction at our potion making station! The event is completely FREE and is being run on a first come, first served basis – no booking required. Sessions will start every hour on the hour.


Reading Monster Mash

Visit Reading Town Centre this Halloween for some spook-tacular fun with a town centre monster trail – and a pumpkin for those who find them all!

The streets of Reading are full of monsters for Halloween, and it's your job to track them down. It's not as simple as just spotting them though...each monster has its own name that you need to find and note down on your map. Join Reading's Monster Mash between 26th October - 3rd November and locate all 9 monsters hiding in shops and businesses around town...can you find them all?

Once you've found them all, take your completed map to the Reading Pumpkin Patch (outside Waterstones on Broad Street) on either 29th or 30th October (11am-4pm) to pick your own pumpkin. Good luck!

Halloween Half Term Fun with Master Builders Club

Are you looking for a spooktacular activity for your brick building LEGO fan?Our creative play room will be popping up in Reading, Henley, Caversham, Witney, Kidlington, Sonning Common and Woodcote. There will be 10000’s of bricks, a not soo scary story and the opportunity for your child to let their imagination run wild. Suitable for “Little Brickies” aged 5+

Pierces Farm will be opening their gates for you to come and pick your perfect pumpkin. Visit Pets Corner, figuring out the clues on the pumpkin trail and colouring your very own spooky design all whilst enjoying some refreshments and games, the perfect place to keep your children entertained over the half term.

How it works?

No booking required, just turn up and pay £3 per car on entry, grab a wheelbarrow and have a wander round the field to pick your perfect pumpkin. On your way out of the field you will pay per pumpkin, price varying depending on the size of the pumpkin.

Enjoy time in the barn, petting the sheep, chickens and ducks, playing the games provided, educating yourself with the pumpkin trail and much more! For more information click here.

Copas Farm (Iver & Cookham)

Returning this year Copas Farms in Iver and Cookham are opening their gates for pumpkin picking!

Vouchers are £3.00 per person plus 25p admin, (adults and children aged 2 and over). This allows access to the pumpkin fields for photo opportunities to admire the spectacle of acres of beautiful pumpkins ( less as they are sold) and a 20 % discount off the price of pumpkins that you pick ( normally £1.20 per kg .. only 96p per kg with the online voucher) £2.00 per kg  for Squashes , these are the smaller more decorative “pumpkins”

The more you pick the more you save! 

The maize maze ay Cookham will be open during pumpkin season, and you will be able to purchase tickets at the farm shop. No dogs allowed into the farm, with the exception of guide dogs.

Little Scare-lings at Dobbies Hare Hatch

Join us for our frightfully fun Howl-o-ween party, Little Scare-lings

19th, 20th, 25th, 26th and 27th October* | £10.99 per child & £7.40 per adult

Fun and interactive with just the right amount of spookiness, this event provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate Halloween in a relaxed setting whilst enjoying some tasty food!

Your little scare-lings will sink their fangs into some terrifyingly tasty treats from our Children’s Halloween Afternoon Tea, followed by a spooky gourd decorating activity and fun games with the Dobbies' 'monster' - all while you sit back with a cuppa and a treat to watch them have fun.  Fancy dress very much encouraged!

Spencer's Wood & Three Mile Cross Halloween Trail

27th October - 3rd Nov

Back for its fifth year this is set to be the best year yet! Follow the trail to find scarecrows and decorated houses this years theme is sports, occupations and hobbies. Information on where to get your maps coming soon. For more details click here.


Twyford Scarecrow Trail

28th October - Sat 2nd Nov

The Twyford Scarecrow Trail promises an enchanting journey through the village. Last year we had 60 scarecrows on display, and this year we’re expecting more. Each scarecrow is crafted by local residents, businesses and community groups, showcasing their creativity and imagination.

This event is perfect for families looking for engaging activities during the half-term break. Children will have the opportunity to discover these scarecrow creations, sparking their own creativity and imagination.

To ensure you don't miss any of the scarecrows, printed maps will be on sale for just £3 each at Grapevine Estate Agents (9am-5pm) and Ola Coffee Shop (8am-3pm) during the week of the event. These maps are the key to navigating the trail, allowing families to efficiently plan their route.


2024 Mortimer Scarecrow Trail 

The ever-popular MVP Mortimer Scarecrow Trail is back this October Half Term (26 October – 03 November) with the theme Myths and Legends. Head down to Mortimer village to see how many you can spot. 

There will be cash prizes of up to £50 awarded to this year’s seven category winners, including Funniest, Most Eco, Best Traditional and Best Newcomer. For more information click here. 


LUSH Halloween Bath Bomb Party

Get involved with this spooktacular event and enjoy wickedly-good products for bath and shower alike...
